Finally, Answers That Make Sense

Comprehensive Autism and ADHD evaluations for teens and adults designed to help you make sense of your experiences, name your strengths, and identify supports that actually fit your life.

Understanding Your Neurodivergent Experience

At Brown Counseling Services, we offer comprehensive evaluations for Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and co-occurring presentations (often referred to as AuDHD) for individuals ages 16 and older. Many clients come to us after years of feeling misunderstood, chronically overwhelmed, or like they’ve been compensating quietly — particularly adults, women, and AFAB individuals who may have been overlooked by earlier assessments. Our evaluations are designed to help you make sense of your experiences, understand strengths and challenges, and clarify what kinds of support might feel most helpful moving forward.

Autism and ADHD diagnostic evaluations may be helpful if you:

  • Are 16 years or older and seeking diagnostic clarity

  • Experience ongoing challenges with attention, organization, emotional regulation, or follow-through

  • Feel socially exhausted, engage in masking, or experience chronic burnout

  • Suspect Autism, ADHD, or a combination of both (often referred to as AuDHD)

  • Are seeking documentation to support accommodations at school, work, or in daily life

  • Want a deeper understanding of how your brain works and what supports may be helpful

What’s Included in our Evaluations

Each diagnostic evaluation includes a comprehensive and individualized assessment process, which may include:

  • A detailed clinical interview

  • Review of developmental history, including early experiences and milestones

  • Exploration of school and/or work functioning

  • Social and relational history

  • A trauma-informed assessment, that recognizes how trauma and neurodivergence can intersect

  • A focused discussion of masking and camouflaging, particularly for adults, women, and AFAB clients

  • Completion of standardized screening and functional measures to guide diagnostic decision-making

Initial findings help determine whether further assessment should focus on ADHD, Autism, or both.

How the Evaluation Process Works

Step 1: Online Questionnaires

Before your interview, you will complete a set of standardized questionnaires through our secure online system. These measures provide important context and help guide the focus of the evaluation.

She is engaged in conversation with another woman with red hair, who is sitting across from her with her back to the camera. The setting appears to be a modern office with shelves, books, plants, and office supplies in the background.

Step 3: Results and Feedback Session

A follow-up session (typically about 1 hour) is scheduled to review results, discuss diagnostic impressions when appropriate, and provide recommendations and next steps. We help you understand both what the results mean and how they might be used — from guiding future therapy to informing accommodations at school, work, or daily life.

Step 2: Diagnostic Interview

You will meet with a licensed clinician either in person or via telehealth for a comprehensive diagnostic interview. This appointment typically lasts 1–2 hours, depending on the complexity of the evaluation.

How Diagnostic Results Can Be Used

Our Autism and ADHD diagnostic evaluations are conducted by licensed clinicians using established diagnostic criteria and evidence-based assessment practices. As Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs), we are able to provide clinical diagnoses and recommendations within the scope of our licensure.

Diagnostic Results May Be Used For:

  • Personal understanding and clarity around Autism, ADHD, or both

  • Treatment planning and therapeutic supportIdentifying

  • Identifying strengths, challenges, and support needs

  • Informing workplace or academic accommodation requests, when accepted by the institution

  • Guiding referrals to additional services or resources

When selected, a written diagnostic report summarizes clinical findings and recommendations and may be shared at your discretion.

Limitations of Diagnostic Evaluations

It is important to understand how diagnostic results may be interpreted by outside systems. Because evaluations are completed by LMFTs rather than psychologists or neuropsychologists:

  • Results are not neuropsychological evaluations

  • Evaluations do not include IQ testing or full cognitive assessment batteries

  • Results may not be accepted by some institutions, government agencies, courts, or disability determination programs that specifically require evaluation by a psychologist or physician

These evaluations are not intended for legal proceedings, disability determinations, or forensic purposes.

If you are seeking documentation for a specific purpose (such as higher education accommodations, standardized testing accommodations, or employment-related requirements), we strongly encourage you to confirm acceptance criteria with the requesting organization prior to beginning the evaluation.

Our Commitment to Ethical & Appropriate Care

We are committed to providing evaluations that are clinically meaningful, ethically sound, and aligned with our scope of practice. If your needs fall outside what we are able to provide, we will discuss this openly and, when possible, offer referrals to appropriate providers.

Fees & Insurance Information

Diagnostic evaluations are billed on an hourly basis due to the many variables that affect assessment length and complexity. Estimated time and fees will be discussed prior to beginning the evaluation process.
